Orystria

Revision 1 of 3 — sync: publish latest codex content

Lat. IIILong. IX

Overview

Supreme deity and detached ruler of the pantheon, with five aspects corresponding to the five colors of magic (White/Blue/Black/Red/Green). Has not been seen or heard from in generations; rests in a tomb at the center of the orbits of the setting's five... (per source: "five moons" — reconcile against the confirmed four-moon count from Calendar for 4-Moon Planet - 2023-04-10, a minor inconsistency worth resolving) until his return.

The pantheon structure

Built explicitly on Magic: The Gathering's five-color (WUBRG) system:

  • Single-color gods — the Five Mothers (see below) and their Right-Hand Sons
  • Two-color demigods — allied pairs (Aemestra, Ophindris, Vexthra, Talanor, Elendrial) and enemy pairs (Ulthora, Thaelis, Vorenth, and others)
  • Three-color demigods — combine three colors of magic, serve a primary color god with presence in at least two other courts
  • Four-color divine champions — combine four colors, represent a specific color and serve in a specific court

The Five Mothers and their Right-Hand Sons

Mother Color Domain Right-Hand Son Domain
Alarisse White Unity, Order, Protection Seraphiel Enforcer of justice, commander of celestial armies
Luminara Blue Knowledge, Manipulation, Illusion Maelstrix Keeper of secrets, master of illusions
Noctyra Black Ambition, Death, Undeath Xantheros Reaper of souls, guide to the afterlife
Ignissa Red Chaos, Destruction, Emotion Ragnaros Bringer of calamities, embodiment of wrath
Sylvanna Green Nature, Growth, Life Cernunys Guardian of the wilds, lord of the hunt

Two-color demigods (partial roster)

Allied pairs: Aemestra (WU, wisdom/strategy/harmony), Ophindris (UB, secrets/intrigue/knowledge), Vexthra (BR, ambition/passion/destruction), Talanor (RG, freedom/nature/change), Elendrial (GW, growth/healing/compassion). Enemy pairs: Ulthora (WB, order/morality/ambition), Thaelis (UR, ingenuity/adaptation/emotion), Vorenth (BG, decay/rebirth) — roster incomplete, only partially surveyed so far.

Liturgical structure

Each deity in the pantheon is given, per the founding session: a portfolio, a holy day/cause of celebration, a description of how followers celebrate, and a death ritual for followers. Example (Alarisse): celebrated on the "Harmonious Solstice" (equal day/night length); followers process in white and gold, perform acts of service; the dead are wrapped in white linen and interred in a sacred crypt.

The "true name" project (Zoquean root-language work)

A later session attempted to give Orystria a constructed "true name" — Niksnaak Tonatiak — built from a Zoquean-based proto-language intended as this world's Proto-Indo-European analog, the root ancestor of the setting's other conlangs (like Paktonyelv). Not yet reconciled against the rest of the pantheon's naming.

Naming note

"Narset," a three-color demigoddess named in the founding pantheon session, was explicitly flagged by the author in that same conversation as "(temporary name, lifted from Magic)" — confirmed placeholder, not an intentional connection to the "Narset" name used elsewhere (an early dropped Mythic Comics AI-companion name, and a real Magic-card reference in unrelated 2026 material).
